Microsoft Outlook Express

Easily setup and configure your Outlook Express for Vanilla email servers

  1. Click on Start -- Programs -- Outlook Express, and Outlook Express will open.
  2. To create a new account, click on Tools in the menu at the top of the screen. In the drop-down menu, select Accounts.
  3. The "Internet Accounts" window will open up.
  4. In the new window, select the Mail tab at the top of the new window. Click on the Add button on right-hand side. Click on Mail in the sub-menu.
  5. The Internet connection wizard window will then open.
  6. Type in your name and surname', or company name, in the Display name field (when you send an e-mail to someone this is the name that they will see).
  7. Click Next
  8. Using lowercase, type in the e-mail address you were given by Vanilla.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Select POP3 as your incoming mail server type.
  11. Type the Incoming and Outgoing mail server names in lowercase in the relevant spaces.
  12. Click here to select your mail server names.
  13. Click Next
  14. Fill in your username/account name and password in the relevant spaces (not your e-mail address).
  15. Note that the username and password are case-sensitive.
  16. Selecting Remember password is optional.
  17. Do not check Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA).
  18. Click Next.
  19. Click Finish to complete the account setup.
  20. You will now see the Internet Accounts window on your screen. You will see pop3.xxxx in the white window - this is your mail account name.
  21. The account still needs to be edited. Click on the name below Account to highlight it and then click on Properties, the third button down on the right.
  22. The account Properties box will now open up.
  23. Click on the Connection tab at the top of the screen.
  24. Check (by left-clicking on) the box next to Always connect to this account using. The connection box will be enabled.
  25. Click on the black arrow in order to select your preferred dial up connection.
  26. Click on the dial-up connection you want to use (it will be selected in the white box).
  27. Click on Apply, and then on OK in order to close the Properties box.
  28. Click on Close in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
  29. You are back in the main window for Outlook Express.
  30. Click the Send / Receive button to check for new e-mail messages.
